No, seriously. What are you waiting for before you start making necessary lifestyle changes to reach your fitness and health goals?
Every day I hear the same thing:
- It’s Friday and I want to have a good time this weekend, so I’ll start exercising/eating right on Monday
- Oh, it’s the end of the month so I’ll start the beginning of next month
- Well, the beginning of the month starts on a Wednesday, so I’ll start the following Monday
- I’ll wait until New Years. I’m just going to live it up until then
- I’m going to wait until things in my life calm down
- I’m going to wait until I have more money saved up
- I’m going to start once my kids are back in school
And many, many more.
It’s not my intention to make anyone feel bad with this blog post. I’m simply trying to get you to realize that there will never be a perfect time to start adopting fitness and nutrition principles. Likewise, this can be applied to other things such as correcting postural, mobility, stability, flexibility, and soft tissue issues. There will never be a “convenient” or “perfect” time.
Even if you decide to wait until Monday before you make a change, there will inevitably be obstacles you still face when Monday rolls around. You may get off work later than you planned; you may not have slept well the night before. You had great intentions of finally tweaking things on Monday, but you got slammed with stuff you didn’t expect.
Things will happen. This is life.
So I ask again: what are you waiting for?
Tomorrow will come.
Next week will come.
Next month will come.
The Fourth of July will come.
Labor Day will come.
Why put off till tomorrow or next week what you can start doing today. Wouldn’t you rather Monday roll around and you already have a few days of exercise and eating well behind you? You’ll be that much closer to your fitness and health goals.
Remember, no matter what you do or don’t do, next month will come.
Are you doing to look and feel the same way you do right now? Or . . . are you going to get out of your comfort zone, commit, and take ACTION. Are you going to look and feel better next month?
Now is the time to start adopting nutrition and exercise principles that will allow you to change your body. Now is the time to start building a leaner, stronger, and healthier body. And if you are already training and eating smart but have been neglecting other areas like soft tissue quality, mobility, and other issues the same thing applies.
How would you like to look and feel on summer vacation? What would you like to wear at the Fourth of July party?
And it’s not just about how you’re going to look in your shorts and t-shirt, or even your swimsuit. You should also be focused on how you will feel.
Not only will changing your nutrition and exercise habits for the better impact your physical appearance, but you will also build confidence.
I have witnessed this with myself and every client I have trained. As their performance and strength in the gym increases, so does their self-confidence.
Not much can upset you when you achieve a twice your bodyweight deadlift.
That stupid comment from your co-worker won’t mean much after you are able to perform 10 or more picture perfect push-ups and chin-ups.
You’ll feel proud and strong as you run hill sprints, get sweaty and out of breath at the park while everyone else sits on a bench.
You will no longer worry about the “latest and greatest diet” once you realize simple nutrition principles are the true ticket to building a healthier body without the unnecessary stress.
And you will no longer be self conscious about your backside after a few months of deadlifting, squatting, sprinting, and glute bridging.
Now is the time to take action.
Now is the time to make a lifestyle change.
It’s simpler than you think. You just need to make sure you keep everything simple – from your training to your nutrition.
My challenge to you is this – if you’ve been waiting for an opportune time to start changing your nutrition habits and start strength training (or simply kick things up a notch), stop waiting. Take action today.
