Today debuts the second episode of Lift Like a Girl TV, and I’m pleased to say it’s with my very good friend, Marianne Kane.
Here are some of the highlights from this episode of Lift Like a Girl TV:
- How to blend training purely for aesthetics and other, perhaps more motivating, goals
- Why sometimes we must battle our own egos and priority our goals
- Tricks for shifting your perspective to get out of a rut
- Common mistakes people make when trying to lose weight, and how to avoid them
- And more
For a little reference, you’ll hear Marianne talk about pain she’s been battling for many years. She’s referring to SI joint pain that she’s trying to tame, and she’ll discuss how her training has had to change from focusing purely on strength and aesthetics to being pain-free.
Before you eagerly press the Play button, I will note that Marianne is currently living in Saudi Arabia and her internet was a little wonky, but it’s just a minor annoyance at times and doesn’t interfere with the awesome stuff she shares.
Here’s the video:
Show Notes – Here’s What’s Covered:
- 1:15 – How to balance and blend training for purely aesthetics and more motivating goals
- 2:00 – Be an advocate for the most important goal for YOU
- 3:15 – Lowering the standards for ourselves (because we expect ourselves to be perfect) and why this can help us move forward
- 7:15 – Battling our own egos and prioritizing our goals
- 8:50 – Tricks for shifting your perspective (doing what you’ve always done to doing what doesn’t cause pain)
- 11:45 – A “friendly battle” between Marianne and I at the gym (that she won)
- 13:00 – Common mistakes people make when trying to lose weight and “build a better looking body”
- 13:55 – Spending too much time trying to find the “best” thing instead of actually taking action
- 14:45 – Changing too much at once (cutting calories, working out non-stop) to where it’s not sustainable long-term. This also makes it hard to identify what is actually working and what isn’t necessary
- 16:10 – The incorrect thinking of “if I do more I’ll get more results“
- 16:55 – Not being honest with yourself about your eating habits; eating journals aren’t very accurate
- 18:15 – Giving up too soon on a plan and not giving it enough time to work. It’s not practical to expect to see noticeable results in four weeks.
- 19:20 – If you’re currently doing nothing, start by doing SOMETHING. It doesn’t need to be drastic.
- 20:05 – The problem isn’t not KNOWING what to do – it’s not DOING what you already know
You can connect with Marianne at her website, myomy.tv. She also has a great collection of various workouts that range from conditioning, to bodyweight-only, to kettlebell workouts, and more.
